DESIGN, CONSRUCTION AND PROGRAMMING OF 1.4 MW MOTOR CONTROL CENTER
CASE STUDY
(OCTOBER 2025 – DECEMBER 2025)
MEET THE CLIENT
West African Soy Industries Limited (WASIL) is the largest Soy oil and fat company in Africa. Through their out-grower program, they work directly with farmers in various communities to ensure they get the highest quality inputs. They have seed collection centres strategically located in high soy-producing areas such as Kaduna, Funtua, Zaria, Kano, Kebbi, Gombe, Ilorin, Bida, Ibadan, Sagamu and Makurdi. Some of their products include Oil cake, Soya bean oil, Lecithin and Acid Oil.

PROJECT SCOPE
As part of expanding their production, a new facility was constructed to manufacture a new product. Zip Automations was fully responsible for the design and construction of the control panels, as well as the development of the control logic for the new facility.
PROJECT EXECUTION
A 3200 A Motor Control Centre (MCC) Panel was designed and built to control 30 motors with a combined power rating of 1.42 Megawatts. The MCC panel incorporated a combination of soft starters, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Direct-On-Line (DOL) controls for starting the motor.

All drive and motor status signals were integrated into an ET200SP remote I/O system to provide accurate reading and feedback. The remote I/O was networked via PROFINET to the existing S71500 PLC on the plant.
An operator workstation was also designed and commissioned, linked via PROFINET to the S71500 PLC for control and monitoring.
